Best Wedding Photo Spots in Kāpiti

There is no shortage of gorgeous photo spots in the Kāpiti Coast. Offering almost every kind of landscape, and plenty of incredible natural views - you’ve made a great decision to host your wedding in Kāpiti (and if you haven’t decided yet, we’re pretty sure this’ll convince you!)
We’re breaking down a few of our favourite photo locations for your creative, bridal or couple shoot on the big day.
BEACHSIDE
The beaches along the west coast of the North Island are perfectly rugged, windswept, and gorgeous under blue skies or moody clouds. Peka Peka, Te Horo, Ōtaki and Waikanae beaches all offer amazing landscapes, especially in the evening light.

RIVERSIDE
Waikanae River and Ōtaki River alike offer so much beauty and a real escape for your wedding photos. Take some calming moments on the day and head down to the riverside, dip your toes in the water and have a bit of fun as a couple.

ESTUARY
The Waikanae Estuary has the perfect combination of the river and the beach - so you don’t need to choose! Or head anywhere along the wetlands in Waikanae and Paraparaumu for some epic shots.

OTAIHANGA DOMAIN
If you’re on the Paraparaumu side of Kāpiti, Otaihanga Domain offers an open park area as well as Waikanae River, and the bridge across offers another photo opp.
Or - go for a venue that has it all, and opt instead to stay onsite for your photos! This can be a massive time-saver, without having to worry about the logistics of transporting your bridal party from one spot to another.
Truly picturesque backdrops and a whole lotta nature, Ngā Manu is seriously idyllic. Endless photo opportunities among the lush forest and wetlands.
Ideally situated alongside the river, and surrounded in nature, Waihōanga River Lodge is classically Aotearoa. Private, perfect, and full of photo spots.

Channeling some real Mediterranean vibes, The Milk Station has an endless supply of top-notch photo spots, both indoor and outdoor.

Gorgeous native bush and so many cute photo spots set against the dramatic Kapiti Coast, Matai Huka Garden Weddings has so much beauty to offer.

Nestled down by Ōtaki Beach, Anam Cara offers a tonne of picturesque backdrops, modern gardens, and its beachside location is ideal!

The most charming wee house set on gorgeous grounds of Ruth Pretty’s Te Horo property, there are so many sweet photo spots including a sweeping lawn, established trees and a pretty stream.

You could even do a combination of both. Depending on the distance from your venue, you could make the most of golden hour and pop down to the beach for some sunset shots with just the two of you, and keep the bridal party onsite (rather than dealing with the hassle of herding a slightly over-excited group into separate cars). And don’t stress - wherever, however you choose, the right photographer will create gorgeous images you’ll adore!
