Winter Wedding Mood

It’s easy to think of summer as the one and only wedding season - after all, it is the time of year when most engaged Kiwi couples decide to tie the knot.

However - it’s certainly not the only choice! Winter brings with it a tonne of inspiration - from the magical, rich, golden light that comes early in the evening, to the extra layers and cosy styling. While autumn is all about those delicious orange colour palettes and cosy ambient light, winter weddings take it to the next level - we’re talking warming comfort meals and beverages, candlelight, epic wedding outfits and a real mid-winter Christmas vibe. Perks of a winter wedding also include more venue and vendor availability, and often winter pricing.

So, what are you waiting for? Light the fire, make a hot choccy, snug up under your blanket, and warm your soul with some winter wedding inspiration.

THE COLOUR PALETTE

Feeling inspired by the snow? Go for a truly winter-inspired palette with soft blues, white, black and silver elements. Or go for the jewel tones - pops of emerald, sapphire or ruby. Used sparingly but tactically they add a whole new vibe to your day. Get a little bit dramatic with it. Add a bit of sparkle. Otherwise, keep tones soft and cool, and play on the moody vibes of winter. There are endless possibilities.

CANDLELIGHT

Nothing better than a little bit of fire in your styling - and a bit of candlelight not only ups the romance, but also adds a bit of warmth to each table. Be safe, though! Fairy lights are also a good option.

KEEP IT WARM

Stock up on blankets and pashminas for your guests to get all snuggled up in if they’re feeling the cold. Hot water bottles will go down a treat too!

THE OUTFIT

Bring on the wedding jumpsuit! Keeping it classy with something a little bit different. Or if a jumpsuit isn't quite your jam, there are plenty of dresses that’ll keep you toasty through the cooler months. Think about layers on top too - a shawl, pashmina or coat. For him - a three piece suit is much better suited to winter weddings than summer weddings! Those extra layers will keep him warm through the day,

THE FOOD

When it’s cold, food becomes all the more important! Warm your tums with a winter-inspired menu. Family-style serving is a lovely way to keep everyone settled at their tables, without going for a plated menu.

THE DRINKS

Mulled wine, anyone? Some hot drink options will absolutely go down swimmingly with your guests. Here’s a favourite - Mulled Wine
