Why Book A Professional DJ?
When it comes to music for your special day there are many reasons why you should consider a professional. Booking a DJ doesn’t just mean someone to throw down party bangers after your first dance. Think about the music for the rest of your day. Do you really want to ask one of your guests to be distant from your wedding, while they fumble through their Spotify playlist, battling with 3G reception, hoping to get your Walking down the Aisle song queued in time? We talked with the award winning team at DJ4You to get some inside knowledge about the difference a Professional DJ can have on your day.
Music Sets the Tone for your Entire Day
One of the first reasons to book a professional is the same as any - take the weight off your shoulders, and let someone who does it full time worry about it. Why spend hours and hours making playlists to try please everyone, when you can simply give a professional a few requests and a bit of direction and let them spend the time to make your playlists from start to finish? Setting the correct tone for each moment of your wedding day can have such a powerful impact on the mood and emotions of your guests. Everything from heart touching music playing subtly in the background as guests arrive to your ceremony, to happy uplifting music as guests cheers champagne during cocktail hour after you are officially married, and through to background music during dinner that wont intrude on people’s conversations. And, of course, a selection of the best party hits to get your group of friends and family dancing – no group of wedding guests is the same!
Music Selection for Your Wedding Day
When speaking with DJ4You about their music selection process it sounded like such a breeze, and weight to take off. They have an online music form where you can fill out all your important songs of the day like Walking down the Aisle, Cutting of the Cake and your first dance to make sure you don’t forget about any of the important moments. You then have a selection of genres you can tick and special requests for each part of the day, or simply hit the ‘DJ in charge’ box to leave the professional to do what they do best. They also encourage you to consider a ‘One song that will make me dance’ on your guests RSVPs to get a really good understanding of YOUR guests music choices. This helps to build the foundations of the music that will be played on the dance floor, combined with your music choices, and mixed with some guaranteed dance floor hits of their own library.
Selecting the music for your dance floor is not as simple as putting together a playlist, hitting the shuffle button and letting every song play from start to finish. With such a large variety of guests at most weddings the order and timing of every song is so important. Can you imagine 100 guests all wanting to hear their song, constantly pushing next on your playlist, skipping through songs to find their favourites, or waiting for long 6 minute songs to finish playing and completely losing interest?
A good wedding DJ is constantly reading your crowd and judging how each song is being received. Every little thing tells the DJ how the song is received by your dance floor, from things as simple as whether your guests are singing along, dancing, or leaving the dance floor for the bar. If a song is received well maybe the DJ will let the song play through for more than the first chorus, or even the entire song. A song that’s not being received so well, or may just be a hit with a select group in your guest list (let’s say just your bridesmaids are vibing to a 90s R’nB jam but your aunties and uncles aren’t) might get played out for the first chorus, then mixed into a song of a different genre. Letting songs of a variety of genres play out from start to finish is a sure fire way to end up with an empty dance floor and no atmosphere for your party. Not too sure? Check out these mixes to get an idea of the sound that a professional DJ brings.
What equipment does a DJ bring?
Every DJ is different of course, but we asked DJ4You what they would typically bring to a wedding to give us bit of insight. Jan, the company director, says that whilst they have several packages to cater to different budgets and needs, every package comes with a sound system, microphone for speeches, vows and formalities, and all the equipment the DJ needs. You can add on things like a Portable Sound system for your remote ceremonies, lighting for your dance floor, festoon lighting, special effects for your first dance such as dry ice and cold spark fountains and even photobooths!
By booking a professional, they bring not only their top-notch skills to the table, but they also bring high quality equipment, meaning you don’t have to worry about hiring everything separately.
